Governor's Message

Brothers,

I attended the California Nevada Moose Association Annual Convention in Palm Springs the first week of September. Much of what was presented in the business sessions of the convention were reports, presented by the various officers and committees, about what the association has been doing over the past year. Most of this information is available on the association's website (ca-nvmoose.org), so I won't even try to summarize it here.

The real value of attending this convention (and the recent International Convention) for me, was meeting other members of our fraternity. The exchange of ideas and experiences with members of other lodges and chapters has helped to give me a better understanding of what the Moose is all about and hopefully how to make our lodge even better than it already is.

In last month's newsletter, our administrator - Eugene Bartee, summarized the criteria for receiving a Premier Lodge award. We are currently meeting the mandatory criteria and many of the alternate criteria. But we need to keep up the pressure to make sure we meet all of the criteria at the end of year. The big item that we need everyone's help with is increasing membership.

Bull Moose of the Month - Jack Johnson

I'm sure that many of you have noticed the beautiful carved solid mahogany moose that is currently sitting in the entrance lobby of the lodge. The moose was donated to the lodge by Jack Johnson in memory of his late wife, Betty. Jack has also quietly and generously donated to many of our charity programs. Jack, thank you for your generosity - you're Bull Moose of the Month.

Fraternally, Bill Osincup, Governor

Administrator's Message

The Convention is over believe it or not I had a pretty good time. Most of what was presented is available on line at www.mooseintl.org and updated regularly, which means I've already read it sometimes more than once. As for Palm Springs, if you have a choice of when to go there go in January.

The Governor and I went to every General Session except for the last one. We had a demand request from three of our sisters to attend Cindi Heller's Green Cap ceremony which was held at the same time they were giving out the awards. A big thank you goes to Bud Palmer for picking them up in Sonora.

One more member than last year still remains questionable. I don't think we'll know for sure about it until March 31st next year. Our membership quota is looking good. With two weeks left before the mid-way point, we have 33 new members which is just 3 short of half the quota. My thanks goes to all the sponsors who have brought in new members. If you've earned a years dues by sponsoring two new members, don't forget to bring me your renewal notice. Congratulations go to Ray Gentry for signing his 25th new member, now go for 50.

Beginning May 1, 2009 the sign two and get your dues paid sponsor award will change from your dues year to the Moose Year May 1st to April 30th, this change is being made so we can simply look on the Preferred Members chart and see who has earned a years dues.

Fraternally, Eugene

Senior Regent's Message

I would like to congratulate Kathy Carpenter for receiving her College of Regents degree and Jan Vladimiroff for receiving her red stole, the top honor for the WOTM. Way to go ladies,

Our ice cream social-pie sale-and white elephant sale were very successful. We made over $1100.00 and no where near all the work tamales was for us in the past. Thanks to all the ladies who came in and made pies and to the ladies who made pies at home and brought them down. Without all of you, this would not have been possible.

Bingo concessions have been going well, but, we have had to enlist the help of Bill McClure to run it for us. We need someone to take this over for us. It only runs through the end ov November. I send my thanks to Bill for handling this for us.

Co-Worker of the Month-Shirley Ferguson and Amy Arnold These two ladies are Officers for the WOTM. They have helped make pies, support everyone who is in need of a little cheer, and always try to help whenever things come up. Shirley has been a member for 1 year and Amy for almost 2 and they are certainly getting very involved. Thanks go to both of you for everything you do.

Convention was Fun for all of us-Cindi Heller Jenifer Murch, Della Taylor and I all had the privilege of attending the Annual Convention held in Palm Springs. Jenifer was planning on writing a little bit on this, but, Red Cross called her to go to Texas and help with the hurricane victims. She asked me to fill you all in.

We had such a good time at convention. Della was recognized as our International Co-Worker of the Year nominee, Jenifer Murch received her Novice Co-Worker of the Year nomination certificate for 2007-2008 and I received my Green Cap. The green cap ceremony was new this year and it is very beautiful. I want to thank Bill Osincup and Eugene Bartee for attending my Green Cap ceremony. These 2 guys gave up going to their own Awards Ceremony at convention to attend the ceremony and I truly am honored that they did attend. Thanks go to everyone for allowing us the opportunity to attend the convention to receive all of our awards. Without the members of our Chapter working together to raise money by either putting on meals, fund raiser or participating in our Ice Cream and Pie social, we would not have been able to attend. Thanks, everyone, for all of your volunteering and help.

Fast Eddie's Pool Table Chatter...

Sign up on the BB next to the pool table for future tournaments and wear your team shirts at the tourneys.

The September Pool Tournament was held on the 21st and I don't have the results so close to press time for the bulletin.

In order to keep everyone up-to-date regarding future tournaments and pool news, we have decided to schedule tournaments earlier in the month in order to meet press time for the Bullhorn. So, mark your calendars for the next five months...Tournaments are held on Sundays...to support our Social Quarters on a normally slow day of the week. Also we get a chance to offer pool opportunities to those who work during the week. Tournaments start at 11AM and players are encouraged to arrive early enough to get in a few practice games, and I will usually be there by 9:30AM. Here's the next five dates: November 9th, December 14th, January 11th, February 8th and March 15th.

Anyone wishing to play tournament pool other than at our lodge can join several players at the 19th Hole on Wednesday nights and The Lube Room on Thursday nights. Contact me if you need any further info on this.

Community Service from our Lodge-Cindi Heller

On August 30-31, 2008 members of our Lodge and Chapter volunteered to cook for the Logging Jamboree in Arnold. Some of these people were cooks and others were volunteers helping where needed. Thanks go to the following people for all of your help: Richard Small, Bill Kislingbury, Ted Carpenter, Bill Nelson, Bob Harlow, Des Ooghe, Steve Minneci, Joyce Kislingbury, Scott, McKinney, Rodger Henness, Josh Heller, Nate Heller, Della Taylor, Marilyn Harlow, Harry Tittle, Pat Collum, and Rick Kislingbury. These members put in over 208 hours during August 28 through August 31st to put this on. We all send our deepest Thanks for all you do to help in the Community.

Lodge Clean Up September 2, 2008

Thanks to the following: Ted Carpenter, Kathy Carpenter, Bill Kislingbury, Ed Gorey, Bob Harlow, Don Lloyd, Bill Ochsner, Bob (tardy) Strunck, Gloria Gonzales, and Jean Lestanguet, who has taken on the kitchen cleaning detail. His volunteers were Bob Arnold, and Roger Henness. (GREAT JOB GUYS) We still miss you Dan. And of course my better half Janice for the reminder calls.

Did anyone know that Gloria can run 25 yards in 1 second? Just put a lizard by her and watch. I think she can fly also.

One of the highlights of the day was watching Bill Kislingbury's Performance, changing the light bulb in the clock behind the bar. He kept looking for the hard drive, he thought it was a computer.

For the people who didn't make this work party. Come on down October 7th at 9 a.m. and maybe Gloria or Bill, Or someone else will display some of their hidden talents. You never know what to expect, but if you don't come by, You could miss one of these exciting performances.

Fraternally, Pat Collum
